Fresh Look for Our Premier 1 Teams

Northern United Hockey Club is proud to unveil a brand-new look for our Premier 1 men’s and women’s teams as we kick off the 2025 season.

Thanks to the generous support of Pub Charity Limited, both squads are now kitted out in sharp new uniforms that reflect the energy and ambition of our club. This funding has played a key role in elevating our on-field presence and strengthening our collective pride and professionalism.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to Just Hockey for their hands-on support throughout the ordering process. Their commitment to hockey at all levels across Aotearoa makes a real difference to clubs like ours. And to Belgravia Apparel, we’re grateful for the high-quality gear that not only looks fantastic but performs when it counts. Their attention to detail and delivery ensures our athletes take the field looking and feeling their best.

As we head into another big season, we can’t wait to see our P1 teams doing what they do best—competing with heart, passion, and now, a fresh new look.

Join Us for NUHC Club Day – 17–18 May at the National Hockey Stadium!

📣 From Our Roots

Founded in 1930, Northern United has been at the heart of Wellington hockey for 95 years. This weekend is all about community spirit as much as on-field action. Whether you first wore NUHC colours decades ago or just started cheering last season, you’re part of our story.

Pull on your club colours and come down to the National Hockey Stadium this weekend to support our players and reconnect with old teammates. With the committee putting on a bar tab with some tasty bites—courtesy of The Grind Kitchen—so grab a cold brew, swap stories with old teammates, and soak up the action on the turf!”

Three of Our Own to Represent NZ at 2025 Trans-Tasman Masters Challenge

We’re absolutely stoked to share that three of our Northern United lads have been named in the New Zealand squads for the 2025 Trans-Tasman Masters Challenge!

A huge congrats to:

  • Peter Thomas – NZ Men’s 65s

  • Aaron Clulow – NZ Men’s 50s

  • Jason Neilson – NZ Men’s 50s

What a bloody awesome achievement! Pulling on the black shirt is no small thing, and we couldn’t be prouder to see these legends representing Aotearoa across the ditch.

Pete, Loosie, and Jase are long-time club men who always give their all on and off the field. They’re great role models for the rest of us – proving that top-level hockey doesn’t stop just because you’ve had a few more birthdays.

All the best for the challenge, fellas . We’ll be backing you all the way!

A Huge Thank You to New World Newlands – Supporting Our Junior Stars!

As we welcome back our junior teams for another exciting season of hockey, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to New World Newlands for their generous support of our club.

Thanks to New World Newlands, each of our junior teams will be able to celebrate the effort, teamwork, and spirit of our young players with Player of the Day certificates. These small but meaningful tokens of recognition go a long way in encouraging our tamariki, building confidence, and keeping the fun at the heart of every game.

We’re incredibly grateful for local businesses like New World Newlands who continue to back grassroots sport and invest in the next generation of players. Your support helps us create a positive, community-focused environment where our juniors can thrive on and off the turf.

Here’s to another great season—see you on the field!

Huge congrats to our Northern United players named in the 2025 Wellington rep squads!

We’re absolutely stoked to see so many of our players recognised for their hard work and commitment this season.

Fredrich Schmidt, Henry O’Brien, Simon Korb, Zac Fowler, Jacob Eade, Adam Baker and JB Macadre have all been selected for the Wellington U18 Men’s Gold Team. On the women’s side, Yasmin Rodda has made the U18 Women’s Black Team, and Eliza Ho-Ng has been named in the Gold Team. Incredible mahi from everyone involved.

And it’s not just our U18s in the spotlight. A massive shout-out to Brayden Chapman-Taylor, who’s been named in the Wellington U16 Boys squad. Another exciting step forward in his hockey journey.

We’re also really proud to see Leah Murphy selected as co-coach for the U18 Men’s team. It’s fantastic to see our coaching talent getting recognition at this level too.

Getting picked for a rep team is no small feat. It takes talent, hard work and a heap of dedication. These players (and coach!) will now get the chance to test themselves at a national level and represent Wellington with pride.

The rep tournaments are just around the corner. The Vantage National U18 Champs run from 29 June to 5 July, with the boys heading to Timaru and the girls travelling to North Harbour. The U16 Boys will hit the turf in New Plymouth from 8–11 July.

We’re so proud to have such strong Northern representation across the board. Bring on the campaigns! Northern United is right behind you.

Julia Gluyas Selected for New Zealand A Team

Northern United’s own Julia Gluyas is off on another incredible adventure, this time heading to China with the New Zealand A team for the Two Lakes Innovation Cup! Fresh off her Black Sticks debut earlier this year, Julia’s selection is another massive achievement and a reflection of the hard work and dedication she puts into her game.

The Two Lakes Innovation Cup will see Julia and her teammates taking on top-tier competition in an exciting international setting. It’s an awesome chance for her to gain more experience at a high-performance level while representing New Zealand on the world stage.

Julia continues to make us all proud. Her journey is a testament to grit, passion, and pure talent, and we have no doubt she’ll give it everything she’s got over in China.

Huge congrats, Julia! Your Northern United whānau is backing you all the way.
